Yes!!!! I met her!!!

This week we are participating in an outreach with our church, but I just had to take a few minutes and share this story of God faithfully encouraging us and providing for us.  We are so grateful!

Many people have asked us questions concerning how much contact we are able to have with our Lucy Joy, what we know about her life right now, and if she knows we are coming.  These are all great questions, and often people look very surprised when we answer, “We don’t know.”

I have been combing the internet for information about Chinese adoption, travel in China, Baoji City, Guangzhou… Jason has detailed knowledge of these places from studying google maps.  Recently when we received new pictures of Lucy as part of an update from her orphanage, even though he has never been to China, Jason recognized the park she was in!

Sometimes in a Facebook group I am in or on a blog people will post pictures of their child along with other children who have not yet been adopted in hopes of advocating for them, helping them to find a family or perhaps find the family who is matched with one of the other children or who has perhaps adopted one of the other children.  We have 6 photos of Lucy, that is less than one per year of her age and they are all probably taken in the last 2 years. How many pictures do you think you might have of your 8 year old?  I could probably not even count how many pictures we have of each of our other children by the time they were eight!  As we have traveled this path to bringing our daughter home, each and every little bit of information and each and every picture has been a gift, a treasure to us and something that we can use to help tell her story with her, give her a history.

Last week, someone posted in the Facebook group I am part of that they had been to Lucy’s orphanage in March and would be returning in October.  She invited people to message her if they would like to know if she had met their child.  I decided to try, it was possible… I messaged Kelly, included a picture of Lucy Joy, and her reply was,

“Yes!!!! I met her!!!”

She kindly offered to speak with me on the phone and then graciously spent over an hour of her time speaking with me.  Imagine, out of 300 children at the orphanage, she had met and spent time with our daughter!  She was able to share with us that the orphanage has received word that we are coming and that Lucy knows she has a family.  God is so good, thank you, Lord!  Not only did we get to know more about our daughter, but she also shared valuable information about that will help us navigate our time in China.

We hope to be in China in October, but if we cannot be, perhaps our Sparrow will be able to participate in this amazing project called Their Vision is Valuable.  Please take a look, they are in need of sponsors to make this happen!

Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm.  Nothing is too hard for you.

Big progress has been made on
Lucy Joy’s Puzzle Project!
We are so grateful to everyone who has sponsored puzzle pieces.
Thank you so much!

Pictures!

We received our update on Lucy Joy!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words…

Isn’t she beautiful?

We also appreciate the words that were sent in answer to our questions.
We learned that Lucy Joy is 120cm tall (or 47.2 inches) and weighs 20kg (or 44 pounds),
and that she likes fruit and yogurt.
We have also learned that our Dossier has already been translated
and is now being reviewed.

It seems as though our paper work is speeding along and we cannot wait
to meet our Sparrow and learn many more things about her.

If you would like to help bring our precious daughter home,
there are still puzzle pieces left to sponsor in
Lucy Joy’s Puzzle Project!

The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

through the power and strength of Christ

Wisdom from our social worker, Meagan,
at Lifeline Children’s Services…

“While it is important to try and process as much education as you can before Lucy Joy gets home it is good to remember how you will implement that education. It is through the power and strength of Christ that your family will be able to implement those resources and education in a way that brings glory to Him. I love adoption because it is the perfect picture of what Christ has done for us. He sought us out and pursued us even though we fought and pushed away. That is exactly what you will be doing with your sweet daughter and it will definitely take Jesus being in the equation like you mentioned.”

LID!!!

We are so excited!
After only 10 days,
we have our LID or “Log In Date”
which means we have been logged into China’s computer system.
This should have taken 2-3 weeks!

The most exciting thing about this
is being able to send some questions to China asking for an
update on the information in Lucy Joy’s file.
It was recommended that we send 5-10 questions.
We chose the following:

May we see videos and photos?
How tall is she?
How much does she weigh?
What or who makes her the happiest and what or who makes her the saddest?
Does she have a nickname?
Why was her name chosen?
What is her favorite food and drink?
Who is she closest to?
How does her special need affect her right now?

We should be able to travel about 4-6 months from now!

Too Much for One Day!

It may just be too much good news for one day!
*smile*

First, we received a call from our case worker at Lifeline telling us that we are
DTC!!!
(Dossier To China)
This is an important and exciting step in the China adoption process!

Next, we received a letter from Show Hope which began…

“On behalf of Show Hope and the donors who make our grants possible, we rejoice with your family as you step out in faith to experience the miracle of adoption.  Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your adoption process.  We are pleased to inform you that you have been awarded an adoption assistance grant in the amount of $4000.”

We were already celebrating a year of middle school successfully completed, a year of high school successfully completed, and a semester of college successfully completed by our talented and dedicated students…
so it was a triple celebration as we took the “big kids” out for coffee and dessert tonight!

We continue to Praise God for his provision as we continue to prepare to travel to China and bring Lucy Joy home!

The Same Sun

We took a walk together tonight, all of us.
Well, almost all of us…

Jason commented that at a little after 8:30pm, we could still see the sun, that he thought we could probably see the sun at the same time that Lucy could.
I just looked it up, the sun rises in Baoji City at a little before 6:00 am,
which is a little before 5:00pm (the previous day) here…
so, yes, we see the same sun everyday.
However, Lucy Joy sees tomorrow before we do.
I imagine she will lead the way for our family in many things.
Maybe China isn’t so far away after all.

…and a little child will lead them.

Stops Along the Way

Our updated count for Lucy Joy’s Puzzle Project tells a wonderful story
of the generosity of many who have contributed…
We are almost half way there!
Let me share a few more details with you, you will be blessed!

Many young people that we know have sponsored puzzle pieces themselves, by crafting, baking, and babysitting to raise the money.  Perhaps we have not heard all the stories, and we do not have pictures of everyone’s hard work and service, but here are a few that have been shared with us!

We look forward to the day when we can share these stories with Lucy Joy,
stories of how she was loved and anticipated by so many.

Our Dossier should begin its journey to China tomorrow,
with a few stops along the way!
First, it needs to be sent to the state of Alabama (where Lifeline Children’s Services is located) and Shelby County (the county where their Birmingham office is located).
This should take about 1 week.

Next, it will need to stop off at the Chinese Consulate in Houston, TX.
This will take about 1-2 weeks.

After that, it is off to China,
hopefully by the end of May!
Once we are DTC (Dossier to China), it will take 3-4 weeks to be logged in.
After we have an LID (Log in Date), we should receive our
Letter of Approval (LOA) in 2-3 months.
We should be able to travel 2-3 months after receiving our LOA.
If you have been counting along with me, a conservative estimate
might put us traveling sometime between October and the end of the year.
Will you pray with us that all of this (and more!) will be accomplished in
God’s perfect timing?

Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him…
